 NFI VT

In 1984, the State of Vermont reached out to NFI, and invited us to develop programs to divert children and adolescents from state hospitals. NFI met the challenge with a proposal to develop a comprehensive system of care, including crisis stabilization, residential care, and therapeutic foster care. The proposal was accepted and NFI Vermont was born.

NFI Vermont quickly gained a reputation for offering excellent clinical treatment in small programs centered on children and families. As we became more and more adept at managing and treating Vermont’s most challenging children and families, our programs became known as places where the Department of Mental Health’s “bottom line children” could grow and heal. With our help, the state of Vermont began to rely less on out-of-state and residential placements and more on treating children at home or in their communities.

NFI Vermont continues to focus on providing the highest quality services possible, as well as on diversification, particularly in the areas of attachment issues, trauma, alternative educational strategies and refining wraparound services. We are highly regarded in the state of Vermont by our colleagues and peers as experts in crafting individualized programs for the most challenging adolescents and families in the state.
