NAFI is a private nonprofit human service agency specializing in
community-based care for children, youth, and adults with emotional and/or
behavioral problems. NAFI is the parent company of NAFI/NFI and also operates
regional programming in Rhode Island, Maryland, Virginia and Florida. NAFI's
services are driven by the agency's commitment to community-based care for
clients with a diverse range of needs. The diversified and multi-faceted array
of programming including juvenile justice, community-based services, foster
care, specialized services for young women, and educational services results in
a consistent and effective continuum of care.
NAFI has extensive experience in working with youth and families within the
context of their neighborhoods. Through advocacy and supportive interventions,
counselor/advocates assist families in accessing community resources and in
interacting effectively with community programs. These non-residential programs
focus on accountability and skill building for youth, while maintaining an
emphasis on community safety.
NAFI is nationally known for its innovative approaches to services for young
women. NAFI provides gender-responsive long-term residential programs,
community-based group homes, therapeutic foster care, and community-based
services. NAFI also operates approximately 30 alternative and special education
schools. Our schools create and maintain a community that supports pro-social
behavior. Services build on the strengths of each child, while providing
individualized clinical, residential, and educational services for youth. Youth
are encouraged to develop adaptive coping skills, appropriate peer and family
relations, and community living and social skills.
