JUVENILE JUSTICE SERVICES

NAFI/NFI has been a pioneer in effective, community-based programming since 1974, when its Founder and President, Dr. Yitzhak Bakal, was a visionary and leader in developing community-based services for adjudicated youth who were then residing in Massachusetts training schools. Today, NAFI/ NFI operates community-based juvenile justice programs in several states. NAFI/NFI's juvenile justice services include secure residential programs, staff-secure programs, group homes, independent living programs, outreach and tracking programs, and therapeutic foster care. These services operate along a continuum, from restrictive to community-based, and are designed to provide individualized programming to best serve each youth's needs.

These programs provide a structured and supportive culture that help youth learn to discard negative behaviors and build on their strengths. NAFI/NFI's juvenile justice programs include clinical, medical, educational, recreational, prevocational, vocational, and family services, as well as cognitive skill-building and community service opportunities. Youth in these programs are provided with the opportunity to develop values and skills in a climate that supports and rewards positive change and assumption of responsibility. Our goal is to prepare youth for successful social reintegration and participation in the community and society.

As a youth's prosocial skills improve, he/she may transition to a group home or independent living program. In such a setting, youth attend school or work in the community, and receive guidance, support and life skills training from staff. Once a youth has returned to the community, he/she may be placed in an outreach and tracking program that provides community-based supervision and support, educational and vocational advocacy, and family work. If home is not the best alternative, a youth may be placed in a Professional Parent home that provides therapeutic foster care.
